Ranger Wine News • January 2021
It’s still January, and today, despite all the turbulence in the world, the sun is shining.
I’m never one for big sweeping resolutions to start the New Year, except for my mantra that doesn’t change; Be Better! It’s my way of remembering to be positive, in family, work and life generally.
Ranger Wine starts this year with lots to be positive about. While orders from our first campaign are slowly starting to arrive (and thank you again for your patience!), we have plotted out a path for the year that will bring a steady flow of great wines to your cellar and table. Our monthly campaigns starting in February will showcase just one or two producers from our portfolio, organized with the flow of the seasons in mind and what we think you will like to be drinking.
First though, we are thrilled to announce two exciting additions to our portfolio. Please say a big Bienvenue to Champagne Nathalie Falmet. Nathalie is a third-generation vigneron in the Côte de Bar in the southern most region of Champagne. She has been acclaimed as one of the leading lights in the elite coterie of Les Femmes de Champagne and was recently spotlighted in the December 2020 edition of Decanter. Her wines are refined, elegant and immensely flavourful, crafted with great finesse, conveying the full array of aromatic, flavour and textural profiles that are the hallmarks of great grower Champagne. Her entry level Cuvée Brut will be offered in the $65.00 per bottle range in our March campaign, an extremely reasonable price for a wine of this breed and quality.
Finally, we are over the moon to welcome Moon Curser Vineyards from Osoyoos, British Columbia and to announce that Vintages has purchased an allocation of the 2018 Moon Cursor Touriga Nacional for a spring release. It placed in the Top Ten in the 2020 WineAlign National Wine Awards. We are so pleased to be working with these superb artisans and pioneers in the South Okanagan. Moon Curser, founded by Chris and Beata Tolley in 2004 has won literally dozens of awards, and has made their formidable reputation by crafting small lots of varietally based wines from grapes as diverse as the aforementioned Touriga, Tannat, Dolcetto, Tempranillo, Arneis and Malbec. With their distinctive branding and deep commitment to quality, these are serious wines for current pleasure and excellent aging potential.
We will have lots more to share with you in the weeks ahead, including our offerings for the coming months and insights and tips for collectors who follow the Fine Wine auction markets in Canada and around the world.
Stay safe and love wine!
Stephen
