Domaine Marchand-Grillot (Gevrey-Chambertin)
As is often the case in Burgundy, the Domaine was formed by way of a marriage – the uniting of the Marchand and Grillot families in 1950. Both families had been winemakers and growers in Gevrey-Chambertin and Morey Saint Denis for seven generations.
Today, the Domaine works 9 hectares of vines, made up of 47 plots in the Côte de Nuits in the villages of Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey Saint Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Gilley-les-Citeaux and Brochon. The estate produces a Grand Cru, Ruchottes-Chambertin, two Premier Crus, Petitie Chapelle and La Perriére, as well as a range of single vineyard villages designated wines from Gevrey-Chambertin and Morey Saint Denis. While not certified organic, Domaine Marchand-Grillot practices fully sustainable viticulture and insecticides and chemical weed killers have been banned from the estate for over 20 years.
The wines produced by Domaine Marchand-Grillot display a stunning purity of fruit and depth of flavour that is the result of tireless dedication to vineyard management and a team approach to the winemaking. Even at the villages level, Marchand-Grillot wines reveal beautifully extracted fruit, highly nuanced aromatics and a velvety mouth feel, hallmarks of great Burgundian winemaking. One third new oak barrels are employed for every vintage with no barrel over three years old.
